Hi Everybody,
The Tamil month aadi is a month of lot of festivals. I have always loved this ocassion very much as a child for the different variety of rices and vadams that my amma used to make for me.
Now I just wanted share a few points on the history of this ocassion -
The 18th day of the Aadi month is celebrated as a aadi Peruku. It is specially celebrated in the banks of Kaveri river. It is also specially celebrated by women
Planting of the seeds for rice cultivation is generally done during the month of Aadi. It is in this month that the monsoon is at its peak and water is available in abundance. So the women and their family get together in the banks of Kaveri river and pray the goddess for prosperity.
The women in villages take a holy dip in the kaveri , pray the goddess and offer the goddess a variety of rices made with different flavours . They also exchange kum kum and vethla pakku among them.
Atlast , Such occasions not only serve the purpose of thanking god but also a good family time together.
